This one-day invitation-only Conference on Financing Sustainable Healthcare in Europe was held in Luxembourg on Thursday, October 27th 2005. Endorsed by the Ministry of Health of Luxembourg, and hosted by the European Investment Bank, it was organised in collaboration with the global healthcare company Pfizer, Inc.

The Conference served to launch a one-year investigation into sustainable healthcare financing. It examined in particular:

• Options for Financing Equitable, Efficient and Quality Health Systems in Europe
• Innovation and the Financing of Healthcare – Managing the Tensions
• The Roles of eHealth, Patient Information and Patient Empowerment in Improving Health Outcomes

Speakers were drawn from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the WHO, the European Investment Bank, the World Bank, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, the OECD, AIM and other expert bodies.
